Who am I?
My name is Tim Kepner, or as I'm known in my Austin-based band FULL SERVICE, 'Bonesaw.' I am 28 years-old and I graduated from Amherst College in 2000 with a degree in American History. After college, I taught Middle School History and Music for two years at a private school (Kingswood-Oxford) in Hartford, CT, while Dave finished his degree at Yale.
I have been playing guitar for 15 years in several rock bands, as well as the Jazz Band in High School. In FULL SERVICE, I am the lead and rhythm guitar player and I share the singing duties with my brother Dave on the drums. Dave and I write all of the music and lyrics for the band, and I have been writing songs for as long as I've been playing. My strengths as a player are composition, improvisation, and playing within a group, and singing and playing simultaneously. I LIVE for being on-stage. I also serve as the manager, booking agent, and overall 'boss' of the band (as my mates call me), so I can be a resource for a budding musician on those things as well.
As a teacher, I am most comfortable teaching kids and college students or anybody who is interested in learning how to have fun playing the guitar. I can be especially helpful for people who are in bands, or who want to start a band, as my lessons are geared towards playing with other musicians, listening and adapting, composition, and improvisation. Beginners are also great for me as I have a very patient and relaxed approach.
Why am I teaching guitar lessons? My band FULL SERVICE is my dream and my passion, and teaching lessons privately gives me the freedom to pursue it. We tour several months out of the year, as well. I have been employed in Austin for the past three years at one of the best Law Firms (Sumpter & Gonzalez, L.L.P.) in town and still work there occassionally. But mostly, it gives me the opportunity to play all day, meet new people, and help spread the gift of music to new players!

Styles
I am best equipped to teach acoustic or electric guitar in Rock, Reggae, Blues, Metal, and some Jazz. FULL SERVICE is named as such because we play a full spectrum of styles, so I am fresh in many different types of music. Lots of sight reading and technical wizardry is NOT my style, so if you're interested in learning more than just the basics of modes and advanced theory, then I might not be your best choice.
